Course Syllabus – BCIS I

Many of today’s careers require workers to be familiar with computer technology and various common business computer applications (word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, etc.)  Students also find these skills useful while pursuing academic endeavors in secondary and post-secondary education.

In BCIS I, students will implement personal and interpersonal skills to strengthen individual performance in the workplace and in society.  Successful completion of this course should help the student make a successful transition to the workforce and/or postsecondary education. In this course, students apply technical skills to address business application of emerging technologies.

Homework

This class has very little traditional homework.  Students complete assignments in class using classroom computers.  Student work is "turned in" when students save completed assignments in computer "folders".  If work is not saved properly, it is the same as not turning in an assignment.

Work for this class cannot be done at home and brought in later.  Students can arrange with the teacher to come before or after school (or during lunch, if time permits) to make up missing assignments and/or exams.

Grading

25% - Daily work and class participation

55% - Exams and Quizzes

20% - Final Exam

Note that exams are very important to the grade earned in this course.  Regular attendance and timely completion of daily assignments will prepare students for success on exams.

Exams must be taken in class using classroom computers.  Students can arrange with the teacher to come before or after school (or during lunch, if time permits) to make up exams.
