Syllabus for Geometry

Teacher: Mr. Chen

E-Mail: chen@actchs.org

Course Description:

Geometry is the mathematical study of shapes, their properties, their relationships, and logical thinking.  Emphasis is placed on student discovery and exploration and on formulating and defending conjectures. Geometry includes an in-depth study of reasoning, polygons, congruence, similarity, right triangles, circles, area, volume, and transformations. Students will use a variety of approaches, such as coordinate, transformational, and axiomatic systems. They will also develop an appreciation for the connections between geometry and other disciplines such as art and architecture.

Class Rules and Expectations:

  1. Be Respectful (Student will respectful all people, including themselves, and all property, including their own, at all times.)
  2. Be Punctual (Come to class on time)
  3. Be Prepared (Bring necessary materials and come to class prepared to start your warm-up activity immediately) You cannot learn if you are not prepared.
  4. Be Courteous (Contributing to the learning process in a positive manner)
  5. Obey all school rules (Including No eating or drinking during class time in the classroom.) Eat and drink only at break and lunchtimes. If you have special need talk with me.

Consequences:

  1. Reminder of rule
  2. Warning
  3. Parents or guardians contact
  4. Referral to administrator

Class Notebook:

Students should maintain a well-organized notebook. All work should be done on paper, clearly identified, and to be kept chronologically in a notebook. Notebooks will be checked periodically. You should show all your work in the notebook.

Class Time:

This is one hour and 20 minutes class, students are expected to spend the assigned class period time each day working through the explanations and practice problems or taking quizzes or tests, depending on what is assigned on a particular day. Material has been selected for you to study and practice that takes the place of the time you would spend sitting with a teacher in a classroom. Some practice problems, as well as assignment are considered homework if not completed during class time and are to be complete and turn in to the teacher next day.

Getting Teacher Assistance: Keeping up with work is very important. It is the student’s responsibility to get the daily work done. If you need additional help, I will available before school start, during lunchtime and after school. Please feel free to email me about any concerns or questions regarding the class or work.
