COMMUNITY The Academy of Careers & Technologies is located in the heart of Leon Valley. We believe all students have an unlimited potential to learn. Our mission is to use technology to ignite that potential while providing an active, positive environment through flexible and varied curricula. WEIGHTED CLASSES Advanced placement courses are weighted by adding eight points to the semester grade. Weighted grades are used in computing grade average and rank in class, but numerical grades on the transcripts do not show the added points. The code “AP” is used as part of the course title to designate weighted courses. “D” denotes courses taken in the dual credit program. SCHOOL CALENDAR The four-semester school year begins after Labor Day and concludes in early June. Students at ACT are on a 9-weeks grading period and a block schedule whereby students attend four classes each school day for 80 minutes each. This calendar allows for students to earn a minimum of eight credits per school year. Through ACT programs, students can definitely “Step Into the Future!” CURRICULUM ACT is accredited by the Texas Education Agency and adheres to its policies regarding The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) taught in each class. Our differentiated curriculum -- embedded with technology, is designed to meet the needs of all its students. ACT provides its students with a variety of opportunities for success and advancement through Advance Placement, Credit-By-Examination, Credit Recovery, Dual Credit and Career Track programs in Pre-Engineering, Pharmacy, Cosmetology, Computer Programming, and Accounting.
GRADING SCALE All grades are recorded numerically. Transfer grades are recorded and given the numerical equivalent according to the grade scale of the sending school. The grading scale for all course work completed by students is as follows: A 90-100 Excellent B 80-89 Above Average C 75-79 Average D 70-74 Below Average F 69 or below Failing TEXAS RECOMMENDED HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION PROGRAM
